Sea Creature Inspiration

Does anyone know what this sea creature is?
It was found on pristine white sand, after a storm.
Where there was surf.

Inspiration.  It's all around us.

I think it's a conch shell. A conch is a little creature similar or same family as the better known snail. Love the Atlantic beaches and the shells found there.

Hmmmm. Conch. It definitely was not shell. It was moving!! Someone on the beach said "man-o-war". I did not see the stinging parts...I do know that the dog owners kept their dogs a-w-a-y from this beautiful thing...thanks!

No, it's a By-the-wind Sailor jellyfish (yup, that's the actual common name). I can see why people might have thought it was a man-o-war, since they both have a blow up sail.

There are fantastic pictures and good descriptions at http://www.beachhunter.net/thingstoknow/jellyfish/

Erin - your website link to "Jellyfish of Florida" was terrific! Thanks so much - it was DEFINITELY ManOWar from those website pics...there was no mistaking that shape, the pink and "that" blue.
But for anyone interested - go to Erin's link...it's fantastic!
Thanks for visiting...
