Book Giveaway - Amy Ellis

Now, I know you have probably seen a lot of press about this book.
I hope to bring you a little something different.
And now, let me introduce you to Amy!

Thanks for visiting with us, Amy.  Family First.
I understand you have four children; congratulations!
Do they each have their own sewing machine?
Without knowing the ages of your children, do you let them sew on your machine?
Thanks!  My girls are 11, 7, & 6 and the boy is almost 4.  The oldest has used mine some, but mostly uses the Janome Jem that is about as old as her now.  With the other two girls, we've mostly done handwork in an embroidery hoop, but I have hopes of introducing the machine this summer.  Owen has sat on my lap for hours of sewing, and has learned not to touch anything -  although the speed control is his favorite!

Speaking of machines, have you ever sewn on a treadle machine?
What is the oldest sewing machine you have sewn on?
Do you remember your mother's machine?
I've not sewn on a treadle machine.  My mom's machine, when I was learning, was a white Singer, it had automatic buttonholes, so I don't think it was terribly old.  It has since been replaced though.
Do you remember your grandmother's sewing machine?
My grandmother is a hand work specialist!  She knits, does cross-stitch and hardanger.  She always has a project or two on the needles or waiting close by.  I remember sitting with on the couch and starting a number of projects with her - not necessarily finishing them though!
I know from my own personal experience, people always want to know how their favorite designers 'work'.
When you finally put your head down and start 'power sewing',
do you listen to music, books on tape, or are you a 'quiet' quilter?
It really depends on the time of day!  If the kids are up and busy, I usually don't listen to anything so that I can keep an ear on what they are up to, and intervene as necessary.  After they have gone to bed I will turn on music or a podcast, or stream some netflix.

Do your neighbors know what your third profession is? (after wife, and mother, of course)
If so, how do they react?
I've told a couple of them!  One was really excited for me and has read the blog off and on.
The other kinda looked at me like I was crazy.
You have been so good natured to answer our questions - thank you.
Amy, I have just one more question for you. And I'm sure our readers can't wait to hear - -
What is your next book and when will it be released?
I'm putting together a proposal actually - how'd you know!?
The production phase of writing is a big push so I'm taking my time before jumping in again!

Let me give you my quick summary of this book's character, now that you've heard from Amy.
I must say, the cover did not say 'modern' to me.
Having said that, once I picked up the book and looked at the projects, (see above)
I was sure I wanted to make quite a few of these projects, and they were indeed modern quilts.

The instructions are clear, the yardage well thought out.
And of course, the photography, fantastic.
Thank you Martingale for another great title!

I am a follower of Beyond the Reef (I do not have facebook). The smallest quilt I ever made has been a Schnibbles pattern. The largest is a full size bed quilt, but it is not quilted yet. Amy's book looks fabulous. Thanks for the giveaway :-)

I'm already a follower, and this book looks fabulous!~ The smallest quilt I've ever made is a baby quilt - about 35x45. The biggest is about twin size - about 70x85. Of course, that is 2 of the probably 5 or 6 quilts I've ever made! I'm new to this :)

Hey Natalie...I made some quilted coasters once...do they count? Otherwise, I finished one today that just under 12" square...largest was one about 80" square. I am a follower and I 'like' your facebook page. Thanks for the chance to win Amy's book! I would love to have this one.

I'm already a follower! I'm not a big fan of mini-quilts so the smallest I've done is about 45X60. The largest is one I'm working on now-all pieced but sewing the rows together & it's queen-sized for our bed. Not sure how I'll manage to quilt it, but I'm planning to do so

I am already a follower and I have liked you on FB. The smallest quilt was a 12" X 15" wallhanging and the largest was about 55" X 70" any bigger and it's difficult for me to quilt. Thanks for the chance for Amy's book.

I already follow your blog and like you on facebook.

I make everything from a coasters to king size quilts. I've enjoy making table runners/toppers and wall hangings. They are quick to make and allow for some creativity without the stress of a large quilt.

The smallest quilt(s) I have made were for my granddaughters doll beds and they looked just like placemats to me. The biggest so far are a couple queen sized, but my son and daughter are lobbying for kings for their beds. Beyond the Reef, at Road to Calif in
2007, was the first place I ever bought a Fat Quarter. I've been a follower of the blog and a FB friend awhile.

I'm a follower :) The smallest quilts I have made are baby quilts and are about a yard square. The largest is a postage stamp quilt tht is approximately twin bed sized. That book looks like lots of fun :)

I guess the smallest is a mug rug that was just 8x5" and the largest was just barely within the ability of my machine at 80" square.

Hi, I am now a follower and 'like' you on FB. Wow, the biggest quilt is easy to remember, it was a king...my smallest, probably the 20x20 Christmas quilt for the Children's Hospital here in San Antonio. I would love to win this book, have seen so many great reviews! Lisa in Texas

I follow. The smallest quilt was probably a mug rug measuring ~4x6. My largest quilts have been roughly 70x60. I love Amy's book!

Follower and Like on Facebook. Yes ma'am. Smallest would have to be a mug rug, largest a twin size quilt for my son.

I'm a follower of Beyond the Reef! The smallest quilt I've ever made was a set of Christmas coasters....before mug rugs became popular (does that date me?!). The largest is the king size quilt for my DH, using scraps of 25+ years of kids clothing, pajamas and play costumes (and a few of his old shirts) to make a memory quilt for him. I don't do Facebook, but I'd love to win that book!

Hi, I am a new follower and have also liked you FB page. You are almost up to 100 FB likes. I am number 96. Congrats. I have my first quilt started at the moment. It is a hand pieced block quilt so size will depend on how many blocks I make and the size of the final borders. Thanks for asking some new questions of Amy - love her book.

The smallest quilt I've made was for my niece's doll: 16 inches by 16 inches. The largest I've made is long but narrow: 110 inches long by about 36 inches wide; it's a couch cover.

Thanks for the giveaway.

Smallest is about 18x18 dollie quilt and largest is about 102x102 - actually had to remove some rows as was too big for wide back backing. I follow. Would enjoy using Amy's book - especially if win and it is autographed.

oh and the smalles quilt was a 6"x6" sunflower, with 1" half-square triangles, and largest was a king size - my first quilt!

I am a follower and I like you on FB already!

The smallest quilt I have done is a baby quilt, about 30 x 40. The largest was a queen size Double Irish Chain for a friend as a wedding present. I think it ended up at 86 x100, but not too sure on that!

Thanks for the chance at this wonderful book!

I haven't made many - made a couple 48" square ones for twins, and a 24" wallhanging that's quilted. Have never finished a larger quilt.

I'm a follower, and like you on FB.

I am now a follower of your blog and on facebook! Smallest quilt I ever made was a 9 patch block that I hand pieced and hand quilted (my very first thing made!). My largest quilt made was a small baby quilt about 4 ft square, cute pink strip pieced blocks. :) Thanks for doing the giveaway!

I am a new follower of your blog and your 101st fan on facebook. I have finished zero quilts. I am working on my first quilt, which has the pieces cut out. It is a twin size coin quilt. This is my scrap practice quilt before I make my boys new quilts for their beds. Amy's book looks wonderful. Thanks for a great interview & giveaway! :)

I'm already a follower of your blog! And the smallest quilt I've ever made was a 12" square I did for my cats (it was actually a sample for learning to MQ, but was so pretty I gave it to the kitties). The largest is the 117" square Irish Chain I just finished for our bed ... it's HUGE!

Thanks for the opportunity!

My smallest quilt was a lap quilt,
and my largest was a queen-sized quilt. Those are actually the only two quilts I have made thus far - I am just a newbie at quilting.
