Countdown to Christmas

continuing
Countdown to Christmas
if you look closely you will see it
the happy
the jolly
little bits of the season
tucked here and there
the hibiscus dishes that my very good friend started collecting
the tree that was gifted right from a friend's table
(and I know when I put mine out, that hers are on her table too)
the star with real glitter turning that wonderful dark patina

they are all around us
not the things but the people
the stories
the happy
the jolly

we have been posting each day to let you know
how much we appreciate all of you!
you are the happy, the jolly in our days
thank you

is there something special you bring out each year around this time
something that reminds you of someone near or far
leave us a comment
or post a recipe on the facebook page!

tis the season....

Living overseas far from family is hardest at Christmas time. We have ornaments on our tree that remind us of various people and places that are special to us.

I bring out the Santa rug my MIL bought for her first grandchild, my son Sean. He turned 43 in March. And a hand painted Santa bank also for the first nephew made by my SIL made the same year. All of my kids love them although Sean really has the best claim. So far I haven't given them up!

There is a basket I pull out every year. It is from an old co-worker and what is so special about it is it was totally unexpected. I hadn't worked with her long and we didn't really know each other, but she took the time to find a "little" something for me and for that I will forever be grateful and remember her.

I have a Christmas puzzle that my oldest daughter's kindergarten teacher gave me 23 years ago. The puzzle has large and small pieces for the whole family to put together and we have put it together for 23 years now. Soon, my grandchildren will be able to help, too.

Every year when I was a child I remember my grandmother making big tins full of homemade Chex party mix that she called TV Fodder.

I made a few batches this year and passed it out to family and we had a great time thinking of old Christmas memories.

I have a set of chimes powered by the heat from 4 candles that was my Mum's - I remember it so well from my childhood Christmases!

I love my handmade and vintage ornaments from 4 generations that I can hang on my tree and remember family members not with us now and ones farther away that come home for Chritmsas!

I take out ornaments that were my moms and dad's and hang them high to keep away from the cats. Also a lighted church that i have had since I was a toddler. Memories of Christmas past.

Living in Michigan my family is back in Germany, they always send me an Advents calender - as a Christmas card. Every day you open another small paper window and see a new picture behind. It just brings memories to mind and makes me smile! Thanks!
