One of my favorite 4th of July memories was from the late 50s. The whole block of our street would party together & I loved "writing" with sparklers & watching the "worms" grow when those little pellets were lit!

Back in the 90's when my kids were high school/college age, we would buy tickets to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's Independence Day performance held outdoors at the Henry Ford/Greenfield Village Museum. The music and fireworks were spectacular in the town square. It felt like being time warped to a 4th of July celebration from 100 years ago!

My extended family nearly always went to a tiny town in southeast Utah and they had a parade (with candy thrown to the kids), mini carnival and BBQ at the park, and a big fireworks show. We also had the Cousin Olympics at Great Grandma's house. We had so much fun. Now we only get to do it every 5 years but our kids get to experience a small town Independence Day celebration the way we did because the haven't changed anything since I was a kid.

I will share the opposite of my favorite memory. Two years ago I had an accident on the 4th of July where my finger got crushed in a gate at the church pancake breakfast. Fast forward through pain meds, surgery, more pain meds, and hand therapy, and my finger is doing really well--I thought it might have needed to be amputated at first!

As a child our town had the Pickeral Tournament, with carnival rides, a parade and awesome firework displays. I remember getting out the blanket, getting to a spot before dark and waiting (impatiently) for the "show" to begin.

In the back of Grandpa's pickup, at the county fair grounds, popcorn and root beer and sparklers until it was dark enough for the big light show. Great memories made with my grandparents! thank you - have a great 4th!

One of my favorite 4th of July memories is from when I was in grade school. We watched to local parade then went up to the park later to watch the fireworks. I remember my mom spreading out a quilt for us to lay on and the adults were in lawn chairs. It was so much fun laying there and watching the fireworks go off over our heads. We had the PERFECT spot for watching them and didn't realize it until they started.

We would have neighborhood Fourth of July Parties. Food at one house, swimming at another. Lawnmower races in the back yard. Lots of fun. The town fire department would put on a great show and the best view was from the roof of the house.

When we lived in Upstate NY we would go to the Empire StatePlaza for the day. All kinds of crafts, vendors, music , etc. The culmination was a fabulous fireworks display set to music. Lots of patriotic music.
Do miss it.

We used to go watch the fireworks at Spicer, Minnesota. We would get there in the afternoon, pick a good spot on the beach, bring a cold chicken picnic for supper, and swim and play at the playground until it got dark enough for the fireworks. Great memories! Thanks for a nice giveaway!! :)

Going to a field at the end of town, to watch a fireworks display held by one guy. He took all the risks and kept everyone else way back. It was wonderful. 24Tangent "at" gmail "dot" com

Sparklers! Daddy would set off the safe and sane box of fireworks, then hand me some sparklers ... he and Mom would patiently wait while I wrote, swirled, marched. Thanks, Natalie, for the memory reminder!

Happy 4th to you and Buddy.

I have many great memories of the 4th. My kids were raised with divorced parents and holidays were a battle. We called 4th of July our secret holiday, because we loved it, we always had fun, but we never let on so that it wouldn't turn into the battle of the custody agreement. Like Christmas. (explains my Grinchyness)

One of my favorite 4ths was soent in Cambria, CA. Smalltown parade down Main Street, complete with kids on bikes and Veterans waving, watermelon eating contests and digging out a windbreak on Moonstone Beach to watch the chilliest fireworks show, ever. Oh, and homemade ice cream makes the 4th even better!

My birthday is on the 6th, so when I was little we would usually celebrate my it on the 4th and my Mom would say the fireworks were for me. :)

My favorite was when my 2 older brothers had gotten some farm work to do and spent the money on fireworks! First I had ever seen! How awesome they were!

My favorite 4th of July memory was going down the street where all of the kids would gather and set off fireworks. There had to be 30 kids and you all had sparklers and snakes, bottle rockets and colored flares. Matsche.christine@yahoo.com

When I was much younger, my parents used to take us to the park, where our town would sponsor a fireworks show. Now that I am older and lazier my husband and I make martinis and walk across the street to watch fireworks on the bay.

Taking my kids to some great fireworks when they were younger is a favorite 4th of July memory for me.

I have to say... I cant remember any good 4th of July memories. My sister burned her leg with one of the ones that rotates on the ground and looks like a flower...that's really the only memorable thing that I cant think of... sheesh, I better make tomorrow a good one!

When we were real young, we vacationed at my mom's sisters house for two weeks around the 4th. On the 4th we would get up early to drive the lake to save picnic tables for all the relatives that would be coming later for the picnic reunion. Then in the evening we would go to town to watch and ooh and aah over the fireworks.

our family always spend the 4th the same way. Cookout and fireworks. It might not sound exciting but we love getting together. Hsppy 4TH to you.

Growing up in Kentucky, we often had picnics even at home. I remember having watermelon slices outside with my family as a kid and writing in the night air with sparklers, which seemed almost magic. carolann427@aol.com

My favorite 4th of July memories are the fireworks! My dad taking me on the roof so we could sit and watch. A golf course letting people sit on the cool grass to watch nearby fireworks. The time the local hill caught fire from the fireworks because it was so hot and dry. The patriotic music.

My favorite memory was last year when all of my daughters were actually and we were able to watch the local fireworks from our yard. We had sooo much fun!!

My favorite aunt and my cousin lived down the street from us when I was growing up, and I loved going from her house to mine on the 4th of July, watching fireworks and talking to our neighbors along the way. Such good times.

When I was young, my family would get together with the neighbors and we would all contribute fireworks and the men would light them and the younger kids would all get sparklers to play with.

My son's first 4th of July...he stayed up way past his usual bedtime, started watching fireworks and fell asleep in the middle of the very loud show. How, I don't know.

I love small town 4th of July's. My hometown has a community dinner, auction, concert, and fireworks on the evening of the 3rd. Then on the 4th, there's a breakfast, parade, and activities in the park. The auction and fireworks are probably my favorite! I try to donate something I've made to the auction each year- quilt, apron, tote bags, etc. And now my daughter loves it too!

My favorite 4th of July memory is when I was about 3 or 4 years old. We lived in Idaho and I had my brand new trike from my birthday earlier in the year. This was a taaaall tricycle and I am short...lol Well, my brother helped me decorate my tricycle for a contest and to be in the parade. I won a blue ribbon. I think I still have that ribbon somewhere...lol Happy happy time. :)
