Hi, Natalie! My smallest fun size quilts were mug rugs. I was so intrigued with that term when I first stumbled upon it a couple of years ago, that I had to put my piecing skills to the test and create some quilty goodness for my kitchen table. Fun, fun!

This looks like a fun project to do in short time

I made some some quilts to put in frames for my great granddaughters room. After I made her bedding for the crib my grand daughter wanted matching photos on the wall

It isn't really a small quilt but it does have a lot of small pieces and has really taken a long time to make. It is a wall hanging that includes deer, mountains and trees. I am not used to such small pieces that I am totally amazed that I am still working on this one. It takes a lot of patience and I am finding that if you really want to make it you can do it. I love the idea of the Fun-Sized Quilts and all of these are such a great inspiration to the mini quilting world. Thank you for the chance to win.

My first fun sized quilt was squares each with a different paper pieced cat or cat face on it. Sashed in attic window fashion so learned how to do mitered corners as well! It was an early piece for me so the quilting is simply stitch in the ditch around the square edges but it is still rotated on the wall with the other wall quilts.
Have also made a number of mug rugs, each designed for the recipient.

I have made many potholders which are basically little quilts. This past July 4th I took 54 that I had made to a family picnic and passed most of them out to people at the picnic. They are fun to make from scraps!

Louise said...

My smallest quilt so far was my very first one. 24" x 24". My friend Steph is a wonderful quilter, and she had given my husband and me a beautiful quilt as a boat-warming present. When I expressed interest in trying to learn, she gave me all the scraps from our quilt so I'd have something to work with. I made a little square pinwheel quilt and was totally hooked!

It's so much fun to have a quilting buddy, and I am so lucky to have started right out on my quilting journey with a good friend.

I was lucky to win a collection of patriotic fabrics from Stonehenge and challenged my self to make table runners and mini quilts til I ran out of fabric. 2 runners and 2 mini quilts later, I had about a palm's worth of scraps left! pjrcontest@msn.com

The smallest quilty thing I have ever made was a set of placemats for my mom that were about 12x18. They were the very first quilt project I ever made and quilted on my husband's Singer. I remember I used a whole spool of thread to piece the 4 placemats - no one had taught me about chain piecing!!!

My smallest is about 8" x 11". I love small scale because it can be so fast.

I make a lot of rag quilts for babies. If they are a girl, I will make them a matching doll quilt out of the scraps for when they are a bit older. Or if they have older siblings, I'll make them matching doll quilts to match baby brother's/sister's. These go over quite well and it's a great way to use up tiny scraps of fabric (usually flannel) that I may not otherwise find a use for!

I have made so many mini quilts that I can't begin to list them. I was challenged to make one with the smallest pieces I could manage. That turned into a finished size of 6" sq. pineapple with 1/8" binding and 1/4" finished pieces in the blocks. Oh, it was foundation paper pieced.

Congratulations on having a mini quilt in this lovely book - I LOVE HANDQUILTING and your quilt looks gorgeous. I have only made one mini quilt many years ago before I knew anything about quilting - only that I wanted to do it. I made a 12" mini with an easter egg in each quadrant - the eggs were made of strips of fabric that I had sewn together and then cut the egg shapes out of - I appliequed them and turned under the edges as I went - I put sashing horizontally and vertically with a little center square that I hand quilted a heart on - I handquilted around the eggs and put easter coloured plaid binding on. I discovered it this easter - it looks so amateurish and that's because it was - but I love it.

My modern quilt guild asked each of us to make a "mug rug" to exchange. I made an English paper pieced flower, put it on a rectangle, and had the greatest time quilting it! Since the finished projects were each in a bag, it was really a surprise. Such a fun project and it only took me about an hour or so to quilt.

I guess the smallest fun-size quilt I've made is a mug-rug. I was putting my favorite fabrics together and testing out fancy stitches on my new machine. It came out so well that I put a binding on it and made a darling mug rug! I've done the same to make pot holders.

Congratulations! So happy for you!

My most fun small quilt I made as a challenge for a quilt guild I was in at the time. You pulled a gift bag out of a pile and had to make a small quilt inspired by the bag. The one I pulled was blue with big pink dots on it. I made a small quilt with appliqued batik circles on it and used quilting to make it look like they are bouncing balls. So much fun!

I made a mini quilt for a guild challenge in 2001 or 2002. The challenge called for using black and white, plus one more color, I added blue. I used the paper piece penguin in Margaret Rolfe's "A Quilter's Ark". I made three quilts. One full sized and two smaller ones to make a family. I can not find the quilt right now, but it was no bigger than 36 inches. My first child was just a baby and I like penguins a lot and that drove the design of my quilt. Of course, I almost did not get it down before the meeting and was working on the binding that afternoon.

The smallest quilt I have made was a little bit smaller than crib size. I've actually only made 3 quilts. And with this one, my first, I actually won Joann's Craft for a Cause Contest. It was a play quilt with a little doll that had a pocket for a bed, and a castle that she could enter. It was for a child at the Burn Unit of the hospital. It was an amazing first time accomplishment.

Congrats to you and all of the other designers. SO CUTE!! :)
