Meet Latifah Saafir!!! I am proud to say.....a friend.

I am so proud.  Honestly.
It's true.

is on the

Thank you so very much, Latifah.
I have known Latifah for not so long.
But I can say I KNOW Latifah.
We would see each other at quilt shows, saying hello, asking each other if we were "doing okay".

and then.
I asked if she knew someone
who might want to be my roommate....

and before I knew it,
we were talking all the night through
and sharing family recipes!!
(Latifah Saafir, Triangulate)

You might just recognize this quilt, Triangulate, from
30 Quilts, 30 years, Robert Kaufman Kona Cottons

Rocket-88, Latifah Saafir
Enough said.
If you have the chance to meet Latifah, at a show, or representing Janome in your class,
or if she is teaching a class
Say, Hey!
Convergence, Latifah Saafir
You will be greeted with a "you doing okay?" and a great smile.
And maybe.
Just maybe.
you will walk away with much much more than you started with.

because.
that's Latifah.....

February 10, 2015
"I wrote a book!"
www.beyondthereefpatterns.com
it's such an honor to be selected to write a book
to have the support of everyone at a publishing company
and to have the support from all of you
A Modern Twist
but I have to share with you...
the funniest thing happened...
February 10 came and went without any real fanfare at all

no champagne
no party

just a quiet evening at home
working on a Spring Market quilt
for Windham Fabrics
and a little knitting
while listening to the dog snore
they designed postcards, and when I attended Road to California
everyone received a card
as I sheepishly said,
"I wrote a BOOK!!"
contributed great information on quilting
and quilted all of the quilts in the book just beautifully

we'll be hosting a BookBlogHop beginning March 1
and there will be some great participating designers
so please check back soon!

I am a proud sponsor and a vendor at
QuiltCon
www.beyondthereefpatterns.com
and will be signging books in the booth
that's
Booth 523
by the way

 but really.
in the long run, everything is still the same, here
no balloons
no parades
just fabric.
and quilts.
and you.
thank you
to all of you
thank you

Spring Quilt Market

Spring.
Quilt Season.
Spring Quilt Market.
International Quilt Market, Spring.
#quiltmarket
call it what you will but it is one of two 'seasons' in the quilt world
Spring Market/Fall Market
a time when you see a flurry of new designs
fabrics. patterns. books.

when people post and blog and photograph
color.  pattern.  content.

for some it is big, big, business
and for others it is all of their hopes and dreams and wishes
on display for all to see for three short days

all of this piles on (usually) a sleep deprived designer of one thing or another
that has arrived after days of driving
or hours of flying with tons of bags full of quilts and products rolled through the airports
like some modern day gypsy
by friday, that sleep deprived designer
must give up their t-shirt and jeans for their pearls and sundress
and stand in their booth to receive the comments of the crowd
"I LOVE the quilting on that quilt," one person says.
"Is that Kona?  The colors, that fabric is great," another says.
and I am reminded once again
it isn't just the pattern designer
or the fabric designer
or the quilter

it is all of us
everyone in that big giant convention center
(well, in this case, the whole lot of us that has quite possibly taken over the whole city of Portland)
we are all the sum of our parts
and I remind a quilt shop owner that they are another part
and the quilt shop owner reminds me
that their customers are another part

and someone else reminds me
that the recipient of the quilt, bag, project for the home, is yet another part

given with love
all of it

the most important part of all
is that
we have all given with love

The Dog Days of Summer

I had to look that one up, just to be sure it was okay
The Farmers Almanac tags the dates to be July 3 to August 11
Ancient Rome, July 24 thru August 24
The Gregorian Calendar adds, leap years delete, but overall let's just call it "good"
It's the time of year when Sirius, the Dog Star, appears
and when we have our "warmest summer temperatures"
when dogs hit the pool, or the beach, and then begrudge us the bath that follows
(yes, yes, just like the kids playing in the sand, getting dunked in the bay for a quick clean up)
I think I will put it on next year's calendar
and make it a tradition
people are enjoying the last few days of summer, taking vacations and flocking to the beach
with that kind of
"oh, my gosh, it's August and we haven't even been to the beach yet"
look in their eye
(insert lake, hike, camping, bike riding, hula hooping, having any fun at all, word, here)
the arugula from the garden is growing again after the birds have had their share of salad
and having friends over for dinner means sun tea, frosty beers, light wines and a cold crisp salad

many of us, as quilters or sewists, are thinking
"oh my gosh, the holidays will be here in no time and I haven't even started those gifts"
and so, thanks to Martingale and Company/That Patchwork Place, we are going to do a triple giveaway
for the dog days of summer

because before you know it, you'll be sending those kids packing (to school that is)
and you'll have time for
(currently on sale, in case you don't get chosen here)
(also on sale, by the way!!)
or even
pincushions
eco friendly re-usable snack bags
stunning quilts
(dare I say dorm quilts?)
jackalopes
and my pick from the bunch.....a knitting needle caddy
so let's greet these last dog days of summer
with a triple play giveaway
invite your friends to come follow the blog
leave a comment on which book you'd hope to have sent to you
and please, share a recipe or a 'last picnic of summer' story with us

the random number generator will select
THREE
comments
(on Friday)
and we'll send you your books
but only if you are a follower, or you have invited a friend that becomes a follower
because
our giveaways are our way of saying thank you to our loyal readers

and I DO thank YOU!

natalie.
