BLACKBIRD

I'm listening to a mix I made for a friend on a road trip.
Oh, how I love road trips...
Wait.
Go Back.
The song.  It's BLACKBIRD.
It's a remix.
And I ran into the Los Angeles Times comic section I have kept - - the last Calvin and Hobbes comic strip to be published in that paper (I believe)  September 19, 1993.  Can I quote it?  Can I get in trouble for this Mr. Watterson?  Forgive me in advance...

"Look, a dead bird!"
"It must've hit the window..."
"Isn't it beautiful?  It's so delicate..."
"Sigh...once it's too late, you appreciate what a miracle life is."
"You realize that nature is ruthless and our existence is very fragile.  Temporary, and precious."
"But to go on with your daily affairs, you can't really think about that."
"Which is probably why everyone takes the world for granted and why we act so thoughtlessly."
"It's very confusing."
"I suppose it will all make sense when we grow up."
The next full frame is of Calvin and Hobbes leaning up against a tree, watching birds flying along in the sky...

This is a theme for me - at least, for today.

I hope I carry that theme with me for longer than 'at least, for today'...

I read or saw somewhere (Discovery Channel or the like) that the human brain is the only one in the animal world than can anticipate what's going to happen. Thus we know the end is out there. Perhaps this is why humans have so many ideas of an afterlife. Better than anticipating a dead end.

We spend so much time looking forward, when I finish this or that, when I finally make it, when I have my house paid off, whatever.

Enjoy the moment. Anticipate good things. Breathe deep.
Thanks for the thoughts.

Life is such a mish-mash of yesterday, today, tomorrow - all combine to make the whole, but the sands continually shift. The human brain is remarkable, in that it can contemplate and incorporate all of these at once.
Life is also a series of "projects" - raising children to be good human beings, helping elderly family members transition with dignity and love from this life to the next, remodeling (ugh!), growing a business, advancing a career - all honorable pursuits. IMHO though, the projects that don't talk back(the knitting or quilting or needlepointing) give our brains a chance to settle down, get a grip (literally), and recharge for the other projects.
It's also nice sometimes to let yourself be someone else's project for a little while. Share the love.
Namaste, BNatalie.

Thanks for taking time from your own "series of projects" to add to my series of projects. Also an honorable pursuit.
