What will you do with the gifts you have received?

It's a new year....

the theme for the 129th Rose Parade is

Making a Difference

(it's California - the Rose Parade is a pretty big deal around here
and since I was born in Pasadena, well....you know....)

“The 2018 theme, ‘Making a Difference,’ is a way to honor and celebrate all of the people in our communities, who quietly and without desire for reward or recognition, act in selfless, generous and kind ways to aid or benefit others.” shared Tibbet. “It’s about the human acts of kindness that enrich the lives of others and are the source of inspiration, hope, joy and optimism for all of us.”

time
and
memories

quite often
the most important gift we can give is our time
and in doing so
we create
memories
that will last much longer than any other material gift we can give

you know,
we each have something
that one unique thing
that we "do"
someone took the time to teach us something
and we have those memories that will last us a lifetime

so
for this New Year
I ask you

what will you do with the gifts you have received?

please leave in the comments below
a service or organization that you support
with that special gift that you have received

and for those of you that are looking for a way to use your own special gift,
take a look at some of these organizations
and
Make a Difference
in
2018!

Happy New Year 2014

simply put,
happy new year
this little heart
is
a mosaic on a busy sidewalk

people walk back and forth
over around and by this heart
day in and day out

it doesn't get much attention

in this moment where we
begin again
I want to suggest that we take time
to see the heart
over, around and by
us
every day

show some heart.
give some heart.
have some heart.

my new year wish for all of you

It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.

...worth repeating.

New Years Eve Reflections - 2007

"We are the echo of the future."  - W.S. Merwin

On this eve, I choose calm and quiet.  I am still and I listen for the echo of what is to come.  To create.  To do.  To be.

And if you are not calm and quiet, and if you are singing and dancing and greeting the new year with revelry, I think that will be what you create and do.  That is what you will be.

So, choose wisely.

May the new year be a delight to you all of the days of 2008.

It is a blank page; write well.

As for the old year, I quote Buckminister Fuller:
"There is no conclusion.  There are no fortunes to be told, and no advice to be given.  Farewell."

And as for the bittersweet ache that 2007 has left, I quote Luis Cernuda:

"I know well enough that this image - fixed forever in my mind is not you, but the shadow of love which exists in me...and although I know this, I then think that without you, without the rare excuse you give me, my love, now a tenderness today would be there within sleeping still and lying in hope...then I thank you."

Happiest New Year

HappiestNewYear.

(I was inspired on a long airplane ride.
I hope you're inspired too.)

"It is never too late...let me say that differently.
It should never be too late to do what you believe you are destined to do.
To be.
It is not a function of age.
Age is a function of HOW you achieve it, but not whether you achieve it.
Lessons of history teach us
that great things have been started at many different ages.
Sam Walton started WalMart at age 44.
No, it's not enough to create it.
It's not enough to protect what you create.
You can't hide your light under a bushel -
you must let the world know about it.
You must share it with the world.
Give it to them so they can give back to you - to the world.
Recently, I have seen some inspiring movies about overcoming adversity
AND about leadership.
History has taught us - proven to us -
that the impossible IS possible.
So.
Greet the day, stand a little taller
and find your second wind.
You've only just begun,
and the best is yet to be!"

HappiestNewYear
to you all.

Calendar Giveaway Winner

Congratulations!

Blogger mascanlon said...

Oh no, not the big "o" question! I already try and group all the fabric and the pattern for projects together in the huge ziplocks. I took most of the stash piles out of my sewing room and thats made it a lot more organized. Now I need to go through the 2 large cupboards in the garage and destash those fabrics I know I'll never use.

(please send your snail mail addy to the email on the website)
May you all be blessed with a wonderful New Year.
One calendar year at a time.
One month at a time.
One day at a time.
One quilt at a time.
One quilt block at a time.
One stitch at a time.
Cherish each moment - live each moment at a time.
